Beer Byte - Mass Effect 3 Leviathan DLC

The first DLC for the single player campaign takes you on an interplanetary detective mission to search for Leviathan, but is it an intergalactic towering monster of fun, or a gigantic damp space squib? (I've tried to keep this spoiler free as possible.)

So you get an email from Admiral Hackett informing you a Dr Bryson has got some lead on a Reaper killing bagless vacuum. (Bryson - Dyson geddit? I'm here all week.)
Venturing to the citadel, you meet the Dr, the head of some sort of intergalactic Fringe team chasing myths and monsters, who has found information about a creature known as the Leviathan, a supposed Reaper killer. Before you find out more things go a little bit awry...

The gameplay takes you between a CSI style investigation, searching for clues on the location of the mythical Leviathan and the usual enjoyable shooting reapers in the face with your biotic powers action. The detective sections add a different and interesting spin from the usual Mass Effect experience and I almost wished this kind of element was part of the core game.

Locations are also a strong point to the DLC and offer a varying array of stunning locations, from a very creepy mining colony to an ocean planet that looks like it could be the Bermuda triangle.

Running through the story in just a few hours, you may think 800 MS points may be a tad pricey although you do obtain some new weapons, additional mods, war assets, and a very odd addition to your cabin on the Normandy if you choose to pick it up.

The main problem with Leviathan is it's length and while it is a bit short, it certainly is an enjoyable romp with Shepherd and the gang and fleshes out some unanswered (if not pretty crucial) questions for the trilogy. For fans of this series this is no Project Overlord or Lair of the Shadow Broker, but worth splashing out on if you want more storyline to explore and reevaluate your judgement of the ever so debated ending.

Over too soon but definitely got me looking forward to what else Bioware has up it's sleeve...

So what beer can I recommend to you Reaper killing bad asses while you solve the mystery of the Leviathan? Well as you may be searching the darkest reaches of space how about Dark Star Espresso Stout? Adding specially blended beans to the brew give this beer a rich coffee aroma to this particularly enjoyable dark beer.

"The darkness must not be breached..." but you can breach this darkness with a bottle opener! Enjoy!
